Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre, 01525 375 765

This is the town's main leisure centre and it offers two swimming pools, badminton, tennis, netball, gym, spa and sauna facilities.

From Southern Leighton Buzzard you can walk (25 mins) or cycle (10 mins) across Billington Road into Chartmoor Road, through the Grovebury Industrial Park to the roundabout, then follow the old railway track to the bridge across the canal. • Tiddenfoot Waterside Park (25 minute walk, 10 minute cycle, across Billington Road into Chartmoor Road, through the Grovebury Industrial Park to the roundabout, then follow the old railway track to the bridge across the canal.  Turn left down the towpath after crossing the bridge. Alternatively you can catch number 36 bus to Finches Crescent and walk 5 minutes to the Park).
  • Astral Park (15 minute walk, 10 minute cycle, in Billington Park Housing Estate) - running track.
There are numerous walks and traffic-free cycle tracks around the town. For more information please see www.gocycleleightonlinslade.org/assets/pdf/36_town_map.pdf

Youth Clubs & Information

Leighton Buzzard has a wide range of clubs and societies suitable for youngsters - for a full list check the "Groups" and "Community" pages.  Most schools run a variety of After Schools Clubs.

Here are a number of useful starting points:

Leighton-Linslade Youth Forum
The Forum works closely with the Leighton-Linslade Town Council to provide better amenities for the 12-21 year old population. The forum started in 1997, by a group of young people who wanted to make a difference in their community. The forum is there to make sure all the young people in the town have a voice if they want to. As mentioned above the best way to get your voice across to the people that matter is by becoming a Youth Forum member, all you have to do is attend the meetings!

Tactic Centre

The TACTIC Centre, on Hockliffe Street in the town centre, is a joint project between the Leighton-Linslade Youth Forum and The Leighton Linslade Town Council. TACTIC stands for Teenage Advice Centre, Teenage Information Centre.

The Centre opens from 3 - 6 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 3 - 7 Thursday and 11 - 4 Saturday.

Do you have a health issue, but don't want to go to your doctor? TACTIC has a Health Professional for you to chat to between 4.30pm to 5.30pm most days, offering confidential advice on many subjects including pregnancy tests; condoms, the "morning-after" pill, and chlamydia testing, are also available, completely free!

The TACTIC Centre works with many agencies that are based in and around Bedfordshire, including Citizens Advice Bureau, Youth Service, P.U.K.E (Alcohol Advice), Y.O.T. (Youth Offending Team).

Connexions come to the centre twice a week on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon - you can make an appointment or just drop in. Plan B (drugs agency) are also at the centre on a Tuesday. If you would like to speak to a Plan B drugs worker, speak to a support worker at TACTIC.

Of course support workers are always available at the centre to answer questions or just to listen.

Talk Time is another service that the TACTIC Centre offers. Talk Time is a service for young people, regardless of gender, race, disability, religion or sexual orientation who need support. A trained counsellor is available to chat confidentially on Thursdays from 4 - 7 and Fridays from 4 - 6. You can either make an appointment or drop in. It's where YOU can talk in private to someone who wants to listen.

Anything you say to any member of staff that works at the TACTIC Centre will be taken in the strictest of confidence and will not be passed on to any one else, unless we feel that you or any body else is in immediate danger, but we will always discuss this with you first.
